George's Marvellous Medicine

Hello lovely people,

I am creating a few new pages on my blog!! One is for craft club and will feature all the wonderful crafty things we make with the school children.  The other is a teaching resource for literacy at the moment.  I had noticed, while doing research for my course, that for some books there was limited resources or you had to pay lots of money to be able to access these.

I wanted to teach the children  Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine.  As it is a really funny book and some of the children had never read it before.  I started by re-reading the book and planning out what I wanted to teach and started designing worksheets.  You can download my worksheets by clicking this link.  My breakdown of each chapter is also available to download.

The children were really engaged throughout this book and asked to read another one, which made me feel great :)  I worked with the top Year 3 literacy group but the worksheets can be easily adapted for all ages.

Here are some examples of their finished worksheets.  I used 3 folders that I glued together to display their work and it worked really well.  At the end of the book each child had a portfolio of work to show off to parents and at Friday assembly.
