I'm Sew Very Happy!

Hello lovely people!

I love handmade quilts!!! Problem is that they are really expensive to buy whether they are new or vintage.  So I went out and got myself a petal shape for quilting and a special cutting tool which makes it faster to get all your pieces together.

I have done a lot of research and I am still a bit overwhelmed with the whole thing so to ease me into it I decided to do a patchwork tablecloth.

So I picked out 8 different fabrics ans I washed them before I cut anything to make sure that they don't shrink.  And yes I was cutting on my ironing board because I ran out of space on the table.

So here are my fabrics :) Some are vintage, one is an old skirt, and the others are from my fabric stash!  I cut 4 of each fabric for 4 flowers.

I pinned down all the pieces and rearranged them until I was happy that they were in the right place.  I uses cream and white threads to do a zig-zag stitch around all the petals.  This took ages to do and it did pucker a little but still looked good.

I also decided to add some ribbons to join up the flowers.  I used a pretty green dotty ribbon and a measuring tape one too.  I just did a running stitch along the ribbon to attach it to the cloth.  In the centre of the flowers I stitched a different colored button.

And here is the finished tablecloth! I really like the end result and has made me feel a bit better about attempting a quilt.  I think I will do a flower design on it and do large squares to make it a little easier.
